Karigar hand-embroidering zardozi on a wooden adda frame, the start of a custom embroidered festive outfit

Design Your Own Festive Set: Made to Order, Embroidered by Hand

The best festive outfit ideas often begin with something you have already seen: a colour from a wedding album, a photograph saved months ago, a border you cannot stop thinking about. At Zardonia, many pieces are made to order, so your festive set can begin with you. Bring us a reference image, or simply tell us the base colour you love, the embroidery you want and how much of it, and our karigars will hand-embroider a custom piece around your choices. You can even send us an outfit you already own, and we will elevate it with hand embroidery.

In short: To design your own festive set with Zardonia, start with a reference image, a base colour or an outfit you already own. Then choose your embroidery (zardozi, gota patti, resham, tilla or mirror work), how much of it you want, and where it should sit. Use the brief builder below to put it all together and send it to us. Timelines depend on the embroidery involved and are confirmed when your order is placed.

Design your festive set

Tell us the piece, base colour, embroidery and the date you need it, and get in touch. We will take it from there.

How a custom festive outfit begins

You can start with a reference image, a base colour or an outfit you already own. None of them needs a sketch or any technical vocabulary.

With an outfit you already own

A simple saree, a plain suit, a dupatta that has waited years for its moment. Send us your own outfit and our karigars will hand-embroider it, choosing the embroidery, how much of it and where it sits, just as you would for a new piece. Start by sending us a photograph of it with your brief, and we will talk you through the next steps.

Choose your embroidery

Each technique has its own character, and many pieces combine two or more. For a closer look at the two best-known metal techniques, read our guide to zardozi vs gota patti.

Zardozi

Raised metal-thread embroidery, built up coil by coil, that looks rich and three-dimensional. Our Mehrunisa Set shows it on mustard yellow, with golden zardozi along the hem, sleeves and neckline.

Gota patti

An appliqué technique, in which shapes cut from metallic ribbon are stitched down by hand. It looks flat and luminous, and feels light. Our Emerald Suit, from the Festive Edit '26, is finished with hand-stitched gota.

Resham and tilla

Resham is embroidery in silk thread, which allows the widest range of colour. Tilla is embroidery in gold or silver zari thread. Together they can be vivid and refined at once, as in our red Floral Kaftan, where florals and birds are stitched in resham and tilla.

Mirror work

Small mirrors framed and held in place with thread, catching the light with every movement. Our Beige Sharara pairs hand embroidery with mirror embellishments and detailed borders.

What to send us

Alongside your design choices, tell us the occasion and the date you need the piece by. Navratri runs from 11 to 19 October this year and Diwali falls on Sunday 8 November, so get in touch as early as you can. If you are starting from a reference image, send it with your brief, along with a note on what drew you to it. If you would like the piece made to your measurements, our measuring guide shows you how.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a custom embroidered outfit made from a picture?

Yes. Send us the reference image with a note on what you love about it, and we will talk you through colour, embroidery and the amount of work.

How long does a made-to-order outfit take?

It depends on the embroidery involved. Your timeline is confirmed when your order is placed. Ready-to-wear and semi-stitched pieces are delivered within two to three weeks of ordering.

Can you embroider an outfit I already own?

Yes. Send us your own outfit, whether a simple saree, a plain suit or a dupatta, and we will elevate it with hand embroidery. Share a photograph of it with your brief first, so we can talk you through the options.

Do you make custom Indian outfits for customers in Dubai?

Yes. Every piece is made by hand in our atelier in India, and we ship worldwide, including to Dubai and across the UAE.

Can I return a made-to-measure piece?

Pieces cut to your measurements cannot be returned or exchanged, as they are made for you alone. If you are unsure about anything, speak to us before you order.
